FAQs

What documentation will I need before joining?

If you are successful to come to interview, you will be asked to bring evidence of your right to work in the UK, relevant training documents, your driving licence and any DBS supporting documentation as requested.

If you are successful you will be asked to complete an Enhanced DBS check and subscribe to the DBS update service, within your offer letter you will be provided with details on how to do this. On your first day you will be asked to bring your DBS certificate for review.

What will my typical working hours look like?

In the role of Therapeutic Carers, Senior Therapeutic Carers and Bank workers shifts are 24 hours.
The shift patterns can vary per home, but we try and maintain a shift pattern of two on, four off; this allows for the child and carer to build and maintain relationships whilst also allowing our carers time to wind down between shifts.
Education staff, clinical staff and Head office based staff work Monday-Friday.

I have applied for one of the roles in care but I can only work set days each week, what should I do?

Whilst we try and allow for flexibility with our carers, by giving 6 weeks notice of the shift pattern-we understand that some people may have commitments on set days each week. If you are unable to follow the shift pattern as advised above, we would recommend that you apply for a role on bank-this allows for a lot more flexibility.
If you wish to apply for a role on bank, please state this on your application form.

How does the interview process work?

Interviews will either take place in the form of a formal interview or a recruitment day. Formal interviews are conducted with two members of staff from either the Management team or the Senior Management Team. Recruitment days involve various talks from our therapy team, Managing Director, Therapeutic Carers, children and managers. There will be an opportunity to take part in group activities and the day will be followed up with formal interviews in the afternoon.

Do I need to have experience working with children to be successful?

No. The staff working with our children come from all employment backgrounds; what we are looking for is people with a real passion to change a child’s life through great teamwork, continuous development and exercising autonomy in the role.

Will I be expected to work across multiple sites?

As a Therapeutic Carer, Senior Therapeutic Carer or Bank worker you will be assigned to a Registered Manager (each manager is responsible for two homes) and you will mostly work in one of our homes. However, there is an expectation that you are able to work across all homes as there may be a requirement to cover annual leave, sickness etc.

Clinical staff will mainly be based at our Head Office in Ripponden or our Therapy Centre in Luddendenfoot, however there may be times that they may need to travel to our homes.

Our teaching staff will primarily based at one of our two schools in Ripponden and Oldham, however there is an expectation that they are able to work across both schools.

I have applied for on of the roles in care, will I have to use my own car?

Yes, all our Therapeutic Carers are expected to have business insurance and use their cars for work purposes e.g. taking your child to school. Mileage is submitted with your timesheet and reimbursed with your wage.

How quickly after I’ve been told I’m successful can I start?

After you have received the great news that you will be joining the Time Out family you will be asked to begin your enhanced DBS check; if you feel that there is anything that may come up on your enhanced DBS check please note this on your application form and discuss at interview. Once we have received your DBS and your references you will be informed of your start date.

If you are already on the children’s DBS update service, please notify us of this at interview.

What Our
People Say...

"I have worked for Timeout for 8 months and I love my new career. Every day is a different challenge but it is such a rewarding experience. The company cares about you and fully supports your journey with Timeout."

Therapeutic Carer

"I'm "new" here, having come back to work for Timeout after several years away gallivanting around Wales and France and as soon as I came back I realised how much I missed working here. The young people are lovely, if challenging at times, and the staff team is great too. I have made friends for life here. But the best thing about working in Timeout is the fact that you are making a real and positive difference in the lives of some vulnerable young people. THAT is what makes me come to work with a smile on my face."

Therapeutic Carer

"I chose to apply to Timeout as I liked the values and the ethos of the company and right from my first visit it was evident these underpin everything Timeout does. I like how varied the work at Timeout is and how everyone, regardless of their job role, wants to achieve the best for the children. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere makes everyday enjoyable even through the challenges"
